Origins

Baidu embarked on its journey into autonomous driving in 2013, and launched the world's first autonomous driving open platform Apollo in 2017. At present, Baidu Apollo stands at the forefront of the industry, offering cutting-edge solutions in autonomous driving and intelligent vehicles.

Achievements

As of December 2023, Apollo Go has accumulated over 5.0 million orders and provides autonomous ride-hailing services in more than 10 cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chongqing, Changsha and other cities.

Influence

With more than 220 ecological partners, 100,000 developers worldwide, and 750,000 open source codes, expanded from autonomous driving to the entire intelligent transportation system.

Apollo Milestones

2021

5 Month

In May, we became the first company in China to provide autonomous ride-hailing services and can charge passengers. Launched Apollo AIR program in collaboration with Tsinghua University's Academy of Intelligent Industry Research (AIR).
6 Month

In June, we released Apollo Moon, a new generation of mass-produced robotaxi.
8 Month

In August, we released the upgraded autonomous ride-hailing platform, Apollo Go, accompanied by the unveiling of automotive robot.

2020

7 Month

In July, we launched the world's first mass-produced autonomous driving computing platform “ACU”.
8 Month

In August, Baidu's driverless vehicles provided ride-hailing services in Changsha, Chongqing, and Beijing.
9 Month

In September, We released fully driverless robotaxi and 5G remote safety monitoring.

2019

4 Month

In April, the inaugural Chinese autonomous driving road test report highlighted Apollo's leadership across various dimensions, with road test mileage accounting for 91% of the total.
1 Month

In July, we successfully obtained the first permit of five T4-level autonomous driving road test licenses in Beijing.
7 Month

In collaboration with Hongqi, a pioneer in the automotive industry, a joint effort resulted in the establishment of China's first L4-level mass-produced passenger car production line, achieving successful mass production.

2018

2 Month

In February, the Apollo driverless vehicle fleet made a high-profile appearance at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, successfully navigating through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
3 Month

In March, Apollo received the first permit of autonous driving test license in Beijing.
7 Month

In July, we lauched the first-ever mass-produced L4-level autonomous driving bus, named "Apolong (Minibus)"
10 Month

By October, Apollo had established strategic collaborations with global and domestic leading automotive companies

2017

In April, Baidu announced the Apollo program at the Shanghai Auto Show, Apollo was officially launched.
7 Month

In July, Robin Li, the founder of Baidu, rode the driverless vehicle 5th Ring Road in Beijing.
11 Month

In November, Apollo officially became the national platform for new-generation open innovation in artificial intelligence.

2016

2016 Year

In 2016, Baidu received the 15th global autonomous driving road test license issued by the State of California, US.
